# THE SHARED WALL
## Episode 8: “THE LEASEBREAKERS”
### INT. APARTMENT BUILDING - COMMUNITY ROOM - NIGHT
A crooked projector displays a title slide: **BUILDING MEETING: SAFETY, MAINTENANCE, AND COMMUNITY.**
TESSA, MARCUS, NISHA, and OWEN sit in a row. Nisha holds a laptop. Marcus grips a stale muffin. Tessa smiles too brightly.
At the back, a DOZEN TENANTS settle into folding chairs.
MR. KLINE, the landlord, taps the microphone.
MR. KLINE
First item: complaints regarding noise through the shared wall.
TESSA
We have prepared a brief, solution-oriented presentation.
NISHA
And I have the slides.
She clicks.
The screen changes.
**THE WALL HAS EARS — NEIGHBOR CHAT**
A message appears in huge letters:
**TESSA: MARCUS HAS BEEN PLAYING THE SAME SAXOPHONE NOTE FOR THREE HOURS.**
The room turns toward Marcus.
MARCUS
It was one note. Artistically.
Another message pops up.
**NISHA: OWEN’S CAT HAS MORE EMOTIONAL RANGE THAN OWEN.**
OWEN slowly looks at Nisha.
OWEN
That’s fair, but devastating.
The chat scrolls rapidly.
**MARCUS: TESSA’S “MORNING ROUTINE” IS JUST YELLING AT A BLENDER.**
**TESSA: NISHA LABELS HER LEFTOVERS LIKE SHE’S RUNNING A SMALL GOVERNMENT.**
**NISHA: OWEN HAS BEEN WEARING THE SAME ROBE SINCE TUESDAY.**
OWEN checks his robe.
OWEN
It’s Thursday.
The tenants erupt. Mr. Kline squints at the screen.
MR. KLINE
Is this the official presentation?
TESSA lunges for the laptop. Nisha grabs it. They tug. The projector displays a final message:
**MARCUS: SOMETIMES I THINK WE’RE ALL JUST TOO TIRED TO ADMIT WE LIKE EACH OTHER.**
Silence.
Marcus freezes.
MARCUS
That was private.
TESSA
That was beautiful.
NISHA
That was sent at 3:14 a.m.
OWEN
I was emotionally compromised by a sandwich.
### INT. APARTMENT BUILDING - HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER
The four huddle beside the paper-thin wall while tenants linger nearby, whispering.
TESSA
We need to control the narrative.
MARCUS
We stage a reconciliation.
NISHA
A public one.
OWEN
With hugs?
TESSA
With tasteful hugs.
They step into the center of the hallway. A tenant raises a phone to record.
TESSA
Neighbors, we would like to apologize for our unkind remarks.
MARCUS
And confirm that Tessa does yell at her blender.
TESSA
It jams when criticized.
NISHA
I do label leftovers. But only because Marcus keeps eating things marked “DO NOT EAT.”
MARCUS
That label sounds like a challenge.
OWEN
And my cat does have more emotional range than me.
A beat.
OWEN (CONT'D)
But she’s had therapy.
The tenants laugh. The tension breaks.
NISHA looks at the others, unexpectedly sincere.
NISHA
We complain because we hear everything.
TESSA
Every cough. Every argument. Every saxophone note.
MARCUS
Every time Owen drops a spoon.
OWEN
It’s a very slippery spoon.
TESSA
But… we also hear when someone needs help.
The wall gives a sudden LOUD THUD.
Everyone looks at it.
MARCUS
That’s either the building settling—
Another THUD.
NISHA
—or Owen’s cat.
OWEN
She’s learning percussion.
The four burst out laughing. Even Mr. Kline smiles.
### INT. COMMUNITY ROOM - LATER
The projector now displays a new slide:
**OFFICIAL NEIGHBOR CHAT RULES**
1. No insults before coffee.
2. No screenshots.
3. No saxophone after 9 P.M.
4. Emergency lasagna notifications are mandatory.
Tessa raises her hand.
TESSA
I’d like to add one more.
She types.
**5. If you say something honest, be prepared to say it out loud.**
The others read it.
Marcus nods. Nisha smiles. Owen quietly reaches for another muffin.
MARCUS
That rule is dangerous.
OWEN
So is this muffin.
He bites it.
Immediately, the lights go out.
From the darkness:
MARCUS
Who touched the breaker?
NISHA
Who ate the emergency muffin?
OWEN
I regret nothing!
Laughter fills the building.
### FADE OUT.
