# THE SHARED WALL
## Episode 5: “OPERATION QUIET HOURS”
### INT. MARCUS AND TESSA’S APARTMENT - EVENING
Marcus stands beside the shared wall, holding a stopwatch and wearing noise-canceling headphones around his neck.
Tessa sits on the couch, surrounded by takeout containers.
MARCUS
Tonight, we prove the wall is making us dysfunctional.
TESSA
I thought the wall was making us neighbors.
MARCUS
Same thing, statistically.
He opens the neighborhood group chat on his phone.
ON SCREEN: **OPERATION QUIET HOURS. 7 P.M. TO 9 P.M. NO TALKING THROUGH THE WALL.**
Tessa types.
ON SCREEN: **Can we talk normally in our own homes?**
A reply appears from Nisha.
ON SCREEN: **Define “normally.”**
Another from Owen.
ON SCREEN: **Does screaming count as talking?**
Marcus types: **NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER.**
He triumphantly hits SEND.
Immediately, three phones DING through the wall.
Marcus freezes.
MARCUS
That was already communication.
TESSA
The experiment is working.
### INT. NISHA’S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS
Nisha carefully arranges a candlelit dinner for one. She hears a loud THUMP next door.
She looks toward the wall.
NISHA
(quietly)
Are you okay?
She catches herself.
Nisha grabs a wooden spoon and taps the wall twice.
### INT. MARCUS AND TESSA’S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS
Tessa hears the taps.
TESSA
That sounded like a question.
Marcus taps once.
MARCUS
That means “no communication.”
From the other side: three taps.
Marcus squints.
MARCUS
That means… “your definition is flawed.”
Tessa taps rapidly.
NISHA (O.S.)
Stop arguing in Morse code!
### INT. OWEN’S APARTMENT - MOMENTS LATER
Owen sits at his desk, wearing a bike helmet and holding two pots like cymbals.
OWEN
(to camera)
I’m not participating. I’m simply prepared for emergencies.
A muffled CRASH comes through the wall.
Owen bangs the pots together: CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
### INT. NISHA’S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS
Nisha gasps. She grabs a metal baking tray and strikes it once.
### INT. MARCUS AND TESSA’S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS
Tessa hears the escalating percussion.
TESSA
Is this an emergency?
Marcus consults the rules, then whispers.
MARCUS
We need a silent way to ask.
He holds up a handwritten sign toward the wall:
**EVERYONE OKAY?**
Tessa takes it and presses it flat against the paper-thin wall.
A moment.
From the other side, something presses back.
It’s Owen’s handwritten sign:
**NO.**
Marcus’s eyes widen.
MARCUS
What happened?
Another sign appears.
**I RAN OUT OF CHIPS.**
Tessa exhales, relieved.
TESSA
That’s not an emergency.
Owen’s sign returns:
**IT IS IN THIS HOUSE.**
### INT. HALLWAY - LATER
The four neighbors stand on opposite sides of the shared wall, maintaining a strict silent distance while communicating through objects.
Nisha slides a note under the door.
Marcus responds with a banana.
Owen sends a single sock.
Tessa holds up a framed photograph of the group from the previous episode.
They all stare at it.
Then, instinctively, everyone begins knocking in rhythm.
Tap. Tap-tap. Tap.
A beat.
Marcus smiles.
MARCUS
We lasted twelve minutes.
NISHA
That’s a personal best.
OWEN
Does this mean the wall won?
Tessa places her palm against it.
TESSA
No. It means the wall is bilingual.
A sudden loud CRACK.
Everyone looks up.
The building lights flicker.
MARCUS
Nobody move.
A beat.
From inside the wall, a tiny, unmistakable MEOW.
They all turn toward each other.
NISHA
Was that the wall?
TESSA
The wall has a cat?
OWEN
Finally. Someone here understands boundaries.
They scramble toward the wall together.
### INT. SHARED HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
The neighbors gather around a tiny maintenance hatch.
Marcus reaches for the latch.
MARCUS
Quietly.
They nod.
The hatch pops open.
A cat shoots out, races down the hallway, and disappears.
Everyone screams.
The group chat pings simultaneously.
ON SCREEN: **QUIET HOURS SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.**
**FADE OUT.**
