# THE SHARED WALL
## Episode 10: “Open House, Closed Mouths”
### INT. TESSA’S APARTMENT - MORNING
A bright red notice is taped to the shared wall:
**WALL REMOVAL — TODAY, 5 P.M.**
TESSA stares at it, horrified. MARCUS holds a marker like a courtroom attorney. NISHA clutches a clipboard. OWEN wears a bicycle helmet and carries a mixing bowl.
The wall THUMPS.
MARCUS
That was load-bearing.
OWEN
That was my head.
NISHA
The landlord is showing the building to investors at four. If we prove this wall is structurally essential—
TESSA
It isn’t structurally essential.
MARCUS
Emotionally, then.
Tessa turns to camera.
TESSA
We have four hours to convince a real-estate investor that our inability to live independently is an architectural feature.
### INT. HALLWAY - LATER
The neighbors create an “OPEN HOUSE” display. A handmade banner reads:
**WELCOME TO THE INTERCONNECTED LIFESTYLE EXPERIENCE**
Marcus installs a string between three apartment doors. Nisha arranges labeled baskets: **EMERGENCY SUGAR**, **BORROWED TOOLS**, **UNCLAIMED LASAGNA**.
Owen tapes a tiny microphone to the wall.
OWEN
The wall has always been our fourth roommate.
MARCUS
It’s more reliable than you.
OWEN
It has never paid rent.
The wall GROANS.
NISHA
See? It’s under pressure.
TESSA
That’s the plumbing.
NISHA
Still supportive.
### INT. SHARED HALLWAY - AFTERNOON
LANDLORD VERA arrives with a polished INVESTOR. The neighbors stand in a line, smiling too intensely.
VERA
I’m afraid the wall has to come down. Open floor plans are very desirable.
TESSA
Not this one.
She gestures grandly. A staged demonstration begins.
Nisha whispers through the wall.
NISHA
Marcus, emergency sugar.
Marcus slides a bowl through a small hole. Owen catches it from the other side.
OWEN
I received the sugar.
MARCUS
I received your gratitude.
TESSA
This is our rapid-response domestic network.
The investor looks unimpressed.
Suddenly, Tessa’s phone DINGS.
TESSA
My presentation is starting.
Her laptop dies.
MARCUS
Wi-Fi crisis!
Owen sprints to a chair, climbs up, and holds a router toward the ceiling. Nisha plugs a power strip into another power strip. Marcus bangs the wall rhythmically.
The laptop flickers on.
TESSA
(to camera, whispering)
We rehearsed that.
A loud CRASH comes from Nisha’s apartment.
NISHA
My oven!
She runs. Everyone follows.
### INT. NISHA’S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS
Smoke fills the kitchen. A tray of cookies is burning. Nisha panics.
OWEN
Fire!
MARCUS
No, cookies!
Tessa grabs the extinguisher. Marcus opens the window. Owen fans the smoke with a lease agreement.
Vera watches as the four neighbors move seamlessly—passing towels, shouting instructions, rescuing the cookies.
The investor steps forward, impressed despite himself.
INVESTOR
How often does this happen?
Everyone pauses.
TESSA
Honestly?
MARCUS
Constantly.
NISHA
But never alone.
The wall gives a deep, dramatic CREAK.
A section of plaster falls, revealing a narrow cavity packed with objects: umbrellas, mail, a wrench, three mugs, and a framed photo of all four neighbors at last year’s potluck.
Owen retrieves the photo.
OWEN
The wall kept our memories.
MARCUS
The wall hid my wrench.
NISHA
Both can be true.
Vera studies the photo. The neighbors stand shoulder to shoulder, exhausted and smoky.
TESSA
You want an open floor plan? Fine. But this wall is the only reason we know when someone needs help.
MARCUS
Or sugar.
NISHA
Or an extinguisher.
OWEN
Or emotional support for a plant.
The investor turns to Vera.
INVESTOR
Keep the wall.
VERA
The wall is cracked.
INVESTOR
So are they. It’s clearly load-bearing.
### INT. SHARED HALLWAY - EVENING
The red demolition notice has been replaced with a smaller sign:
**WALL REINFORCEMENT — MONDAY**
The four neighbors celebrate with burnt cookies.
Tessa raises one.
TESSA
To the wall.
MARCUS
Thin, but standing.
They clink cookies.
From inside the wall: a faint PHONE RING.
Everyone freezes.
NISHA
Did someone lose a phone?
OWEN
Probably.
Tessa smiles and knocks twice.
A beat.
The wall knocks back twice.
They all grin.
TESSA
We’re home.
**FADE OUT.**
